Typical Conventions of TV Dramas.
This Country follows the typical conventions of TV Dramas as each character has their own storyline. You can see Kerry lives with her Mum, and Kurtan lives with his Grandma. There is also a narrative as it shows different stories each episode, the characters are very exaggerated with Kerry being obsessed with people thinking she's 'hard' and Kurtan being an obsessive character who needs to complete any task given to him expertly and get's frustrated and upset when he is unable to do so. They are also seen as stereotypes of young people as they commit vandalism, shout in public and use a lot of foul language as well as dressing up in clothes such as full football jerseys. It is a fictional story and uses no special effects or special edits and transitions - just simple edits and lighting. The setting is also a small village in the Cotswolds and the iconography fits that as they have Cotswolds accents and are bored and isolated youths living in the countryside. Episodes tend to last 21 minutes.
Using the Uses and Gratifications model, you can see that an audience would watch This Country for surveillance and use the media to obtain information about other parts of the world and see what it is like in different places in the UK. Audiences may also use this media for diversion, to escape their normal daily routines and watch the other lives of two funny cousins somewhere else. This media may also make up for the lack of satisfaction in their work or personal life as they can see that these two youths are happy living their simple and easy lives in the Cotswolds.
