P5 - Post Production

Organisation and Importing:

To begin my editing journey I created a new library on final cut pro where I would import all my clips into. Next, I created a new project and called it Music Video V1. After every project I would duplicate this project and begin editing that duplication as the next version. I did this in case I decided I didn't like what I had done with this new version and wanted to go back and restart from the previous version.

To Import the clips for my music video, I started by inserting my SD into the back of the computer, this would cause the SD card to appear on my desktop where I could click it and have access to all my clips. Once I had done this, I would open up my 'MV Rushes' file where I would store these clips and organise them into folders as discussed in 'P4 - Production Log'.

Editing Process:

Edit Session 1: I started editing after the first and second shoot. During these shoots we filmed the first scene, verse and chorus, along with another chorus and verse. Whilst editing I discovered a couple of these clips were unusable and were re-filmed and added in at a later date. During this session, I placed the shots in the needed spaces, ensuring there was no rough cuts between them and timings were mostly accurate.

Edit Session 2: During this editing session I placed in the instrumental parts of the video we filmed in shoot 3 and timed them up right. A few clips from the shoot were discarded whilst editing and not included in this edit. These clips were placed in to fit in with the lyrics, however, were not as accurate as they could be.

Edit Session 3: During this editing session, I filled in the timeline with clips from shoot 4 and filled in any gaps which include a gap in the first verse due to the tripod being in one of the shots, the second verse and chorus, discarded the clips from the third verse and replaced them with new clips, and inserted the final chorus and end tent scene with only the final verse and part of the final chorus left to add in. These clips were placed in to fit in with the lyrics, however, were not as accurate as they could be.

Edit Session 4: During this session I created the first version of my music video meaning that all the clips were added and there was no filming left to do. At this point, no effects or colour changes or speed distortions were added to any of the clips - this was just the basic video. All clips were placed in to fit in with the lyrics, however, were not as accurate as they could be.

Version 1:

Version 1 Feedback: After completing the first version of my music video, I received some feedback which was:
Strengths:
- Composition and exposure of individual shots.
- Good camera control and awareness of settings.
Criticisms:
- Cut shots more to beat.
- Shots linger on in chorus.

Version 2:

After completing this version 1 I added a number of changes:
- Completed majority of colour corrections.
- Improved timings of shots.
- Changed up verse by changing the first shot.
- Changed up verse 4 by switching two clips around.
- Changed up chorus 4 by switching a couple clips around, added a couple extra shots and a fade effect between the second to last and last shot.

Version 2 feedback: After completing the second version of my music video, I received some feedback which was:
- Good timing of cuts.
- Easy to follow story, makes sense.
- Good variety of shot types.

Version 3 (final version):

After completing version 2 I added a number of changes:
- Completed colour correction.
- added extra shots to each chorus.
- added a zoom in affect to verse 3 with the shot showing the notebook.
