M1 - SWOT Analysis

Idea 1:

This idea has relatable and likeable protagonists, the theme is also suitable to the target audience and it satisfies audience pleasures as the audience can use this media product for escapism. It can also be filmed on a small budget as there will only be 1/2 locations which could be one of the actors/members of productions house, further decreasing costs. Another way to decrease the budget is I can use low cost, young actors from the north. However, there could possibly be stereotypes and it might need a good budget due to designs and make up of zombies. The underlying social issue may not be clear as it is a comedy.

Idea 2:

This idea will have relatable protagonists and likeable protagonists and a suitable theme as the genre is very popular with the target audience, it also satisfies audience pleasures as the audience can use it for escapism. This idea will also show a range of diverse characters, different races and sexualities and will partly be a coming of age drama. It can also be filmed on a low budget as it can use cheap, young actors from the north and can easily be filmed on a council estate in a local city such as Leeds. However, there is a chance of it being too disturbing as it follows the theme of drugs but this shall be over come by not showing any disturbing imagery, stereotypes may be apparent and the story could be predictable as it will have a happy ending. It may also require many actors.

Idea 3:

This idea will have relatable and likeable protagonists and have a suitable theme and genre for the target audience, it also satisfies audience pleasures as the audience can use it for escapism. Can be filmed on a low budget as it can be filmed in public places and can use low cost young actors. However may need an older actor which will increase budget. May be a risk of stereotypes and may have a predictable theme and ending. Many ideas like this have been done before and there will be a problem with repetition and may also require a number of locations.

Final Chosen Idea:

The idea I have chosen to go through with is my second idea as I believe this will grab the target audience's attention and interest the most, making it the most appealing idea to them. I also believe this is the idea with the lowest budget and therefore will fit in with the brief the best. This idea also has the largest amount of content possible to fit in the series as he will be set on a number of tasks which leaves me with a lot of freedom and imagination, whereas my first idea is set in one location and will be very repetitive and my third idea will possibly only have enough content for the length of a film.

My idea is a 'gritty realism' which surrounds a protagonist who is a young man around the ages of 16 - 20 who lives in a rough, council estate of a city in England and will be set in the present. The plot will generally surround him being forced by other young men (antagonists) to sell drugs for them and commit crimes for them and puts himself in lots of danger and traumatic situations. The main conflict of the story will be the most dangerous task he is ever forced to do and ends up in a near-death situation and he decides to find a way out of. The series will end with him getting a job and doing good deeds and becoming a good Samaritan and is able to use the money he earns to buy a new flat in a safer area, away from the people who once tortured him and his mother's lives. The social issue this idea surrounds is that drugs and violence is a dangerous game and you should keep safe and hang out with only people you know and trust.
