Representation In Media

- Stuart hall's representation theory explains that there is not true representation of people or events in media and there can be many ways they can be represented. Media has no fixed meaning until it has been represented in different ways in the media.
- People's opinions are controlled by meanings from the media.
- Media gives us a limited representation of the real world by creating stereotypes. For example, the stereotype of the hegemonic class is upper class, middle aged, white, heterosexual men.
- Media texts are not real, they are constructed by producers and can even be true in factual productions such as news reports.
- Mediation is the filter that reality goes through to be represented in a media product.
