Mind Map of 3 Ideas
I pitched my ideas to a group of my peers in the form of a focus group. They gave me feedback on all of my ideas. For idea 1 they suggested I detailed where they actually are and what location and building they are in, and how the series would start (how they would come to believe they are in an apocalypse). For idea 2 they suggested to think about the age rating due to possible blood, violence and gore and decide whether it was appropriate for the target audience and if it wasn't - how I could work around it, and how does the boy (main character) escape from his violent life with his mum? Finally, for idea 3 they suggested I would need to think about if the episodes would be repetitive and whether I would be able to create enough episodes with this idea.
Idea One:
My first idea will be a 'dystopian comedy' which surrounds two protagonists who will be men who live in rural England are between the ages of 20 and 30 and will be set around the early 2000s. The plot will generally surround the story that these two guys were hanging out together and drinking, they were having fun and suddenly the weather changes to be extremely bad and the begin to hear very loud noises - they see people outside acting strange and they believe that they are in an apocalypse. They run away and find themselves in this small, abandoned building in the middle of a field and for the rest of the show it shows them living their new life during the apocalypse in this abandoned building. The main part and conflict of the story is about the antagonist who they believe is a zombie or someone trying to attack and kill them periodically, but in reality there is actually no apocalypse and the man attacking them is actually just a farmer who's land they are on and he is trying to get rid of them, but they are too drunk to realise. The end of the series will show them sobering up and realising they made it all up. The social issue this idea surrounds is that abusing drugs and alcohol is bad and can lead to things like irrational thinking and even worse.
Idea Two:
My second idea will be a 'gritty realism' which surrounds a protagonist who is a young man around the ages of 16 - 20 who lives in a rough, council estate of a city in England and will be set in the present. The plot will generally surround him being forced by other young men (antagonists) to sell drugs for them and commit crimes for them and puts himself in lots of danger and traumatic situations. The main conflict of the story will be the most dangerous task he is ever forced to do and ends up in a near-death situation and he decides to find a way out of. The series will end with him getting a job and doing good deeds and becoming a good samaritan and is able to use the money he earns to buy a new flat in a safer area, away from the people who once tortured him and his mother's lives. The social issue this idea surrounds is that drugs and violence is a dangerous game and you should keep safe and hang out with only people you know and trust.
Idea Three:
My third idea will be a 'gritty realism/drama' which surrounds a protagonist who is a young woman who lives in a suburban area of an English town in the 1980s who is around the age of 20 and believes she has a stalker. The story will show her trying to figure if she has a stalker and who it is after a series of strange experiences. The main conflict in the story will be when she is eventually kidnapped and has to escape. She eventually does escape but just narrowly and has to sneak her way out. The end will she her kidnapper being arrested and sentenced and her going back to live her life as normally as she can, however she will now have mental health issues such as anxiety and possible PTSD. The social issue this idea surrounds is the fear of being a woman in this world and the possible danger of women walking at night.
