Analysing student examples

 Video 1: Come On Over

Music video fits with the song choice as one of the conventions with music videos of this genre is performance, which this video includes. There is also a link with the lyrics of the song and video, as in between it shows a story or narrative which links to the lyrics. The video also used a lot of close ups of instruments, the lead singer and the character in the story. The main location was on the moor, outside in a cold environment. The use of nature uses pathetic fallacy to link the lyrics and mood of the song. The video is a bit mysterious as the main character reaches for an old phone on a rock in the middle of nowhere, puts it down when the song starts playing which creates a bit of an eerie and mysterious feeling, but adds some interesting visuals which sparks the attention of the audience. The editing fits with the instruments and the beats, it also sped up as the song progressed.

Video 2: The Tunnels Eyes

Right from the start very bright colours and shows a bit of a performance which fits with the genre of music which pop rock. The colours are very vibrant and creates an uplifting feeling. Uses a few close ups of instruments and mid shots of all the band members. Also includes a story or narrative of a man trying to fix his car, which links to the lyrics of the song, for example 'make it through the night'. When the song intensifies, the music video intensifies too, for example when the guitar solo occurs, they finally get the car working - next the chorus comes and they begin driving down country roads. The video shows a journey of a challenge the (the car being broken), then figuring it out (fixing the car) and finally the solution and end once the car is out on the roads.

Video 3: Crunch Punch

At the start you can hear an old voicemail and scenes of war which creates a chaotic atmosphere which then links to the song genre of indie rock. The video uses conventions such as performance. There is a reoccurring theme of a creepy doll and old television in random yet eerie and mysterious places such as a graveyard which shows the band performing which is a concept part. The video uses lots of mid shots of the lead singer, the doll and other band members. they also have cleverly merged two videos together, for example the lead singer and the doll hanging which creates a very cool and intense feeling as the music intensifies and distorts. The video is mostly in black and white and includes old audios which create a very mysterious and creepy affect, especially at the end where you see the old tv half in a pool of water on the moor with the old, creepy audios in the background. The video also uses locations such as the woods, church and graveyard which conveys a horror, ghostly, deathly and eerie feeling, It throws you off.
